Mau Mau is a well-known card game, recognized as the predecessor of the popular game Uno. It also goes by various names including Auflegen, Tschau Sepp, Neunerln, Pumba, Makao, Prší, and Ocho Loco(s), depending on the region. The game shares similarities with popular card games such as Crazy Eights, Switch, and Uno.

The rules of Mau Mau are straightforward and easy to grasp, making it accessible to a broad audience. Despite its simplicity, the game offers unexpected elements that add to the enjoyment of gameplay. The main objective is to strategically play your cards before your opponents manage to do so. Players must match either the color or the number of the previously played card.

Several strategic moves spice up the gameplay experience, such as playing a 7 which forces the next player to draw 2 cards or play another 7, subsequently leading to a penalty of drawing even more cards. Playing a jack allows players to select a new color, but players should bear in mind that they cannot counter another jack with their own. An ace in play results in the following player missing their turn.
